BEATLES’ webinar & workshop: “Business Models for Climate Smart Agriculture.”

The BEATLES project organised an online webinar and workshop titled “Business Models for Climate Smart Agriculture (CSA)” on Thursday, 4th December. Organised by  Q-PLAN International and SUSTAINABLE INNOVATIONS, the event brought together around 100 participants from diverse professional backgrounds. The webinar aimed to share evidence and practical approaches for developing fair, inclusive, and climate-smart business models in European agriculture, connecting real-world case studies with policy and sustainability ambitions.

Three experts from Wageningen University and Research, a BEATLES project partner, set the scene for the webinar.  Their presentations explored what maκe value chains fair in the context of Climate Smart Agriculture (CSA) and sharing lessons learned from the project’s Use Cases. Speakers discussed the value propositions currently used within EU supply chains, how these related to fairness, and what was needed to create equitable opportunities that support farmers and food-system actors.

A dedicated session focused on how fair business models could be designed to facilitate the shift toward climate-smart agriculture. This presentation addressed the major challenges involved in this transition, introduced a change-management framework, and highlighted findings from 13 business-model prototypes developed within the BEATLES project.

Due to an unforeseen technical issue, the guest speaker from the ENFASYS project, Ioanna Kalyva, was unable to present live during the event. However, her presentation will be recorded and made available to participants alongside the event video. Drawing on ENFASYS’ work on sustainable farming, the presentation will showcase how farmers and other actors participated in co-creation workshops to develop business model options that address common barriers and support wider sustainability goals.

Following the webinar, an interactive workshop gave participants the opportunity to engage directly with technical experts and stakeholders. This session encouraged open discussion and collaborative exploration of business models and their role in advancing Climate Smart Agriculture.
